DT_VARIANTS

Open the Variants palette — see and switch every equipment variant in the drawing.

Opens the Variants tab — an inventory of every block in the drawing that has switchable appearances (equipment variants: placards, attachment diagrams, diagram symbols, logos), with each placed instance listed and a picker to switch its variant from a plain list.

On the ribbon: JobEngine → Palette → Variants

Runs as a toggle: re-running it while the tab is showing hides the palette.

When to use it

Whenever you'd otherwise dig through the Properties panel's visibility dropdown — the Variants tab lists the choices as plain text, so browsing options doesn't redraw the canvas the way the Properties preview does. Use it to check what variant every instance is set to across the whole drawing, or to switch one (or all of them) deliberately.

Worth knowing

  • One change = one undo. Applying a variant is a single step — one Ctrl+Z reverts it.
  • "Set all N → …" in a block's header switches every instance of that block at once, and tells you the blast radius before you commit.
  • Some variants are managed by the project data. Blocks the session controls carry a badge — LOAD_DT/DT_RESYNC set those automatically, so a manual change there gets overwritten on the next load.
  • Finding things: the ⌖ button zooms to and highlights an instance (telling you honestly when it lives in the other model/paper space rather than switching you); Pick on canvas works the other way — click a block in the drawing and the list jumps to it; selecting a block on the canvas highlights its row too.
